 1.  Background
   ● Hyogo Prefectural government and Toyooka municipal government have been hosting ‘International conference on the future of Oriental White Storks’ during the past two decades. This conference aims at accumulating knowledge and technologies related to re-introduction of Oriental White Storks as well as addressing the related issues to the international community.

   Year Theme

Second  2000  Reconsidering the re-introduction policy from various perspective
Third  2005  Making sustainable society possible

 ●

For the past 4 consecutive years, since 2007, the breeding of Oriental White Storks under natural environment has been successful and resulted in the increase in numbers of storks living in Toyooka city. Currently more than 40 storks live under natural environment. This number can be considered as a success of natural breeding. To further promote our endeavour, it is necessary to create a venue for disseminating our experiences to the international community and also for exchanging experience with other parts of the world.

 2.  Purpose
   ● In 2010, the storks re-introduction policy in Toyooka will enter a new era. Last year was the last year for the experimental release which targeted at increase of the storks population under natural environment. The next stage is to control and maintain its population under the natural environment. Thus, Toyooka city would like to have an overview of this policy by discussing and sharing the outcome of re-introduction policy.
   ● Moreover, 2010 is the year for CBD COP 10 in Nagoya. COP 10 will convene various participants from all around the world from national government, international organizations to NGOs. Japanese experience for biodiversity conservation has attracted huge international attention and Toyooka city is one of the fore-runners of the biodiversity conservation in Japan.
   ● By grasping this opportunity in Nagoya, the conference in Toyooka aims to deepen the knowledge on biodiversity conservation and re-introduction policy by inviting the participants in COP10 Nagoya as well as international researchers and government staff.
